The NFL is hoping the pass interference problems from last season will be a thing of the past beginning in 2019.
The NFL on Thursday announced the league's competition committee unanimously recommended the rule for instant replay of pass interference for this season only, after which NFL owners can decide to extend, alter or eliminate it entirely.
The news comes one week after the league announced that teams had seven days to provide any additional feedback on the final rule.
The committee also will allow Hail Mary plays to be reviewed as long as it is "consistent with the guidelines for officiating the play on the field."
With the incorporation of the new rule, coaches will be able to challenge pass interference calls or no-calls until the two-minute warning of either half. After that, replay officials will have the final say and be responsible for stopping the game to review pass interference.
The replay official will only stop the game when there is "clear and obvious visual evidence" that a pass interference penalty may or may not have occurred.
It's a huge win for the Saints, though it won't undo the infamous repercussions from their NFC championship loss to the Rams.
